Writing
Writing coaching: help while you are writing, not after.
Editing improves a manuscript that exists. Coaching helps you produce one — and for a lot of authors, that is the harder problem.
What this is
Coaching is regular contact with an experienced editor while the draft is in progress. It covers craft, but as much of it is about structure of process: what to write next, how to keep going, and how to tell the difference between a genuine problem and ordinary mid-draft doubt.
It suits authors who have started and stalled, authors writing to a deadline, and authors who work better with accountability than alone.
Writing Coaching
What you get
What writing coaching actually delivers
Regular accountability
Scheduled sessions and agreed targets, which for most authors is the single biggest factor in finishing.
Craft worked on live
Problems addressed as they arise, on your actual pages, rather than in the abstract.
A plan for the draft
A structure to write toward, so you are not discovering the book only by writing it twice.
Feedback in progress
Chapters read as you go, with notes you can act on immediately.
An honest read on readiness
A straight answer on when the draft is ready to move to editing — and when it is not.
How it runs
The process, stage by stage.
Each stage finishes before the next begins, and you see the work at the points where your decision changes what happens next.
Starting point
Where the draft is, what has stalled, and what finished looks like to you.
Plan and targets
An outline to write toward and a realistic schedule agreed together.
Sessions
Regular contact reviewing new pages and working through what is in the way.
Reading as you go
Chapters read and commented on during the draft rather than only at the end.
Readiness assessment
An honest view on whether the completed draft is ready for editorial work.
Questions
About writing coaching
Developmental editing works on a completed manuscript. Coaching happens while you are writing it. Many authors benefit from both, in that order.
Whatever cadence actually helps you write. Some authors want weekly contact, others monthly. It is agreed at the start and can change.
That is often exactly who it works best for. Not finishing is usually a process problem before it is a craft problem.
