About us

A publishing company built around the author, not the package.

Nomadic Authors USA exists because most authors are asked to choose a tier before anyone has read a word of their book. We do it the other way round.

Why we started

The book should decide the scope.

Ask most publishing services what your book needs and you will be shown three columns with prices at the top. The columns were written before your manuscript existed.

We think that is backwards. A memoir that has been rewritten four times needs almost nothing from a developmental editor and a great deal from a designer. A first novel with a strong voice and a broken second act needs the opposite. A picture book needs a completely different team from either. None of that is knowable until someone reads the manuscript.

So we read first. The review is free, the assessment is written by the editor who read it, and the quote comes afterwards — built from the work your book actually requires.

What we believe

  • The author keeps the rights, the credit and the last word.
  • An honest no is worth more than an optimistic yes.
  • Sequence matters: structure before sentences, proofreading after layout.
  • A cover is a commercial object before it is a piece of art.
  • Nobody can guarantee sales, and anyone who does is selling something else.
  • Children's books are the hardest format in publishing and deserve specialists.

How we work

One team, one accountable route.

Most books that go wrong go wrong in the handovers — between the editor and the designer, the designer and the printer, the printer and the distributor. Keeping the whole route under one roof is the point.

01

Editorial

Developmental editors, line editors, copy editors and proofreaders working in defined stages rather than one blurred pass.

02

Design & illustration

Cover designers who test at thumbnail size, typesetters who set for the trim, and illustrators who build characters before they build spreads.

03

Production

Print files, eBook conversion and audiobook production, prepared to the specification each channel actually requires.

04

Publishing operations

Identifiers, metadata, categories and channel setup — the unglamorous records that decide whether a book is findable.

05

Marketing

A launch quarter rather than a launch day, planned around the readers the book was written for.

06

Author support

A named contact, scheduled sign-off points, and a straight answer when a date is going to slip.

The name

Nomadic

Books travel. A manuscript written at a kitchen table in one country gets edited in another, printed in a third and read in a dozen more. The work of publishing is moving a book along that route without losing what made it worth writing.

That journey is the idea behind the name, and it is the reason the route line runs through this whole site.

Where we work

American publishing standards, authors from anywhere.

Nomadic Authors USA is a United States company working with authors internationally. The books we produce are prepared to the standards the US retail, wholesale and library trade expects, whichever country the author writes from.

In practice that means US trim sizes and print specifications where the book is aimed at that market, metadata built for the retailers and aggregators that matter there, and identifiers registered correctly the first time. Where a book is aimed elsewhere, we set it up for that market instead.

Plainly

What we do not claim.

A short list, because the absence of these claims is easier to trust than their presence.

  • We publish no author counts, sales figures, ratings or award claims on this site. When the business has verified figures worth publishing, they will appear here with their source.
  • We do not describe ourselves as a traditional publisher. You are the rights holder and, in most arrangements, the publisher of record.
  • We do not guarantee bestseller status, review coverage, retail placement or sales volume.
  • We do not publish package prices, because a price set before reading a manuscript is not a quote.

Company registration details, leadership and office information will be published here once confirmed by the business.

Next step

Start with a conversation about your book.

Tell us where your manuscript is today and what you want it to become. We will tell you honestly what the next step should be.
